The warping engine is fundamental to Live's ability to work with audio as if it were elastic, and for automatically syncing loops of different tempos to the set's global tempo. Live's warp engine is based on a technique known as granular resynthesis, so each audio file is actually broken down into grains. These are essentially groups of samples, as in 44,100 samples per second. Each brain is then processed separately. This is how Live can change tempo without affecting pitch and vice versa.
